About Mental Health and Its Importance: Mental Health Encompasses All Things

Your mental health encompasses your psychological, emotional and social well-being.

You might be asking what exactly this means. The World Health Organization states that your mental health encompasses your psychological, emotional and social well-being. This is a pretty vague statement, but it attempts to define the importance of understanding all aspects of yourself to stay mentally healthy.

It’s important to understand that you are more than just what you eat or how many times you exercise each week. Mental health encompasses several different aspects of you and these things can affect our overall mental health and well-being positively or negatively.

It impacts the way you think, feel and act.

Mental health encompasses all things. It affects the way you think, feel, and act. It also deals with how you handle stress, relate to others and make choices. Mental health is important at every stage of life from childhood to adulthood. The impact of mental illness can be seen in every part of life ranging from work to relationships to physical health. In fact, 90 percent of those who die by suicide have an underlying mental illness or substance abuse problem or both.

Unfortunately, many people don’t feel comfortable talking about their mental health challenges with their friends and family members because they fear being judged or discriminated against by these individuals because they are not familiar with the symptoms associated with these disorders. 

This lack of support often results in a person feeling like they have no one who understands what they’re going through which can lead them down a path full of frustration and despair if not addressed properly through counseling services as well as medication management services when needed most importantly educating loved ones so that they know how best two support their loved one on this very difficult journey towards recovery

It also determines how you deal with stress, relationships and other issues in your life.

  • Difficult situations
  • Decisions to be made in life

Good mental health is important for our overall well-being.

Good mental health is not just the absence of a mental disorder. It’s defined as a state of well-being in which every individual realizes his or her own potential, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully, and is able to make a contribution to her or his community.

Mental health encompasses our cognitive, behavioral and emotional wellbeing – it is all about how we think, feel and behave. The term ‘mental health’ is sometimes used to mean an absence of a mental disorder. Mental health can affect daily living, relationships, and physical health. Good mental health is also vital to personal well-being and contributing to community or society.

While thousands of people experience some kind of mental illness in their lifetime only about 4% will be diagnosed with schizophrenia or bipolar disorder (or psychosis) – two disorders that are often confused with each other due to the fact that they share many symptoms such as hallucinations but have very different causes for these symptoms (a chemical imbalance for bipolar patients versus brain damage for schizophrenics).

People often think of mental health as a taboo topic, but talking about it is one of the best ways to break down stereotypes.

This is a topic that many people are quick to shy away from. But by avoiding the conversation, we’re giving mental illness more power. As such, it’s important to talk about this. Just as a person who suffers from a physical ailment may need help, so too do those with mental health issues.

However, not everyone has the same experience with their illness. There are multiple types of diagnoses and symptoms which affect people in different ways. One of the best ways to educate yourself on this subject is by listening to the stories of others and their struggles. The more we share and listen, the less stigma there will be surrounding mental health issues and conditions, ultimately breaking down stereotypes and allowing for better conversations around it – even if they’re difficult ones to have!

Mental illness is treatable.

One of my favorite things about writing this article was realizing that mental illness is treatable. It’s not something to be ashamed of or something you need to hide from the world. There are many resources available, regardless of your financial situation, and you can find a way to heal yourself so you can go on living the life you’re meant to live. The National Alliance on Mental Illness is a resource that provides education, advocacy, support and public awareness for people dealing with mental illness. 

They also have a help line where you can talk to someone who will provide information and support (800-950-NAMI). The American Psychological Association is another great resource that has information on all kinds of issues related to mental health (including articles on how technology affects our brains!).The NIMH also has some excellent fact sheets that cover various aspects of mental health in children and adults. There are so many organizations out there that are dedicated to helping those who struggle with mental illness because they know how important it is for everyone.

People who experience mental health problems are no different than the rest of us.

People who experience mental health problems are no different than the rest of us—they just may need some extra help. But with one in five Americans experiencing a mental health problem in any given year, you never know when you might have to help a person who is experiencing a problem. Here are some facts that I think every American should know about mental illness:

  • Mental health problems are common; it’s estimated that one in five adults will experience a serious mental health problem this year.
  • Mental health problems are treatable; most people with mental illnesses get better and many recover completely.
  • Mental health problems are not due to personal weakness, lack of character or poor upbringing. They are not the result of bad parenting or childhood experiences, and they aren’t just an expected part of growing up or getting older.
  • With appropriate treatment, most people with mental illnesses can make significant strides toward recovery, even if they must live with their illness as a chronic condition similar to other chronic medical conditions such as diabetes or asthma.

Individuals who don’t experience mental health issues might think that their friends or family members who do are crazy, but that’s just not true.

For those who are fortunate enough not to experience these types of issues, this section is for you. It’s important to realize that mental health problems such as anxiety and depression can affect absolutely anyone, regardless of their background or lifestyle. This includes friends, family members, loved ones and strangers.

You might think that they’re just crazy or irrational people when in reality they need love and understanding above all else. No matter what you think about someone who has a mental illness, the best thing that you can do is have compassion for them and try to understand their situation instead of judging them completely. They might be having a hard time dealing with their feelings or emotions and have trouble communicating what they’re going through because they don’t know how to explain it themselves.

There are many ways to cope with or manage mental illness if you or someone you know has one.

It’s not your fault if you have it, no matter how much stress you’re under or what happened to you as a kid in the past. You don’t have to let it get in the way of being happy and productive.

They will often have support groups or other resources available for you to lean on after sessions are over. They are professionals who understand the illness they treat and they can help immensely.

Having a support system is very important, so get to know yours and stay connected with them while they get to know you too!

No matter the situation, having a support system is very important. This includes people you trust, such as friends and family who are aware of your situation and what it means to you, as well as professionals who have your best interest at heart.

You can start by expressing how you feel to someone you trust. They can be a friend or a family member, but don’t be afraid to seek professional help if necessary – there is no shame in doing so! Your mental health matters just as much as any other aspect of your health. By talking through your feelings, emotions and experiences with someone else, you will likely find some sort of closure that may allow you to move forward with positivity.

Mental health is a very important part of who we are as human beings and should never be ignored by those around us.

  • It impacts how we think, feel and act
  • It is influenced by Everything in our lives, from the food that we eat to the sleep that we get
  • The relationship between our physical health and mental health is a complex one
  • We are all impacted by mental health issues whether directly or indirectly

While many people probably don’t think of mental health as something to be taken seriously, it is just as important as physical health and should be treated as such. Like good physical health, maintaining a positive mental health is equally as important. To sum up: everyone should be proactive about their mental health.
